im not calling you a liar

Grr still no camera access!

Let me see, what news do I have?
I cut my hair. No one noticed.
Oh oh, remember the Topshop Sailor Cardigan I blogged about back in April? Well I finally got my hands on it, for only €18 too :D
I bought a pair of red patent shoes from Penneys. They're amazing.

My interview for the fashion course is coming up next week and I'm trying to figure out what to wear for it.

You can probably expect a post with my outfit choices soon and I'll try to get those Fyrinnae swatches up too.

part two

Oil slick and Kiddie Pool come next. Oil slick is a slightly shimmery black, it's one of the best black eyeshadows I've tried. Kiddie Pool isn't really my kind of colour but it's pretty and it does get a little use.

Then on to Midnight Cowboy Rides Again, my favourite UD eyeshadow (I like it so much I have three) and Flash, a bright purple similar to MAC's Parfair Amour. These two look great together!

And there we go!

Coming up next: Fyrinnae Swatches, keep an eye out for them!

x Sorcha

NEXT!

Next up we have the Sustainable Shadow Palette. It's full of Urban Deacy yummyness and all packed up in a pretty cool box. It also comes with... UDPP!!

Mmm, look at that UD goodness.

Also the eyeshadows are pretty near to being the size of full single UD shadows, which makes this palette very good value. I think the single e/s are 0.5g and these are 0.3g.

As usual, click the photos to see them bigger.

So on to the swatches, right?

Starting off with YDK and Flipside. YDK is gorgeous, a very wearable golden-brown. It's golden, but not too warm toned so it should suit most people. Flipside is maybe a little more tricky. It looks great as an eyeliner on the bottom lid with something a bit more neutral on top.

Grifter and UZI next. UZI is a glitterbomb, but if you can see round that it's a great colour. Grifter is nice, but not all that wearable for me. It would probably suit someone with less yellow-toned skin.

Twice baked, a warm gold, and half baked, a rich chocolate. No wait, the other way around.

Things are getting a little cramped in here, so the rest is going in a new post

does this mean that im not alone?

Yeah yeah yeah, Calvin Harris is still occupying a large bit of my brain. Or his music is anyway, it'd be a bit scary if he was actually in my brain, you know? Cause I'd probably be dead or something. It wouldn't be cool.

But enough of that!
While browsing my photobucket account I found some swatches I did a few weeks ago and forgot to share with ye.

Let's start off with a bit of Urban Decay, shall we?

Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner pencils. These things are amazing. Seriously. If you've not tried then yet (what rock have you been living under?) you need to. Like now. They go on smoothly and evenly and once these suckers dry, they're not budging for no one. I can't reccommend them highly enough, especially Bourbon and 1999.

Included on top are a couple of Urban Decay's Heavy Metal Glitter Liners, which also rock! Mullet is my favourite, because it works with anything but they're all pretty rad. Top row is a few coats applied on top of each other, bottom is just one swish of the wand.

Swatched over no base. On (obviously) quite pale skin, I'm a 71 in Bourjois foundation and Illusion in UD, maybe an NC 15 in MAC?

Top, l-r:
Spandex Glitter Liner; Mullet Glitter Liner; Midnight Cowboy Glitter Liner

Bottom, l-r:
24/7 liners
Yeyo; 1999; Bourbon; Stash; Dime; Honey; Zero

i wish i could say no regrets

Ok, I know I fail at life and I promised to keep this blog updated and everything but... I've been having a pretty mad summer.

Drunken nights
Parties on rooftops
Oxegen
Dancing around the streets
Nights I really don't remember
Nights I wish I didn't remember
Stolen bottles of wine
Bav
Pots of tea
Squeezing 4 people into my bed
Waking up with Pearl beside me way to often
Black Books and Father Ted quotes, we're actually pretty pathetic.

Add all this to the fact that my camera is gone AWOL and really, it's not conducive to good blogging!

Follow my Twitter for updates for now and I swear I'll be back. Once I get a working camera again. I might update with some of my Oxegen ramblings inbetween.

I'll leave you with some fairly kick-ass youtube videos to tide you over.

White Lies- Death. Check out the To Lose My Life 4 Play video, it's a mix of a few of their songs with some added bits and it's amazing. Won't let me embed it though,

Example - Me and Mandy. I've liked this song for ages but I forgot about it and just found it again the other day. The video is pretty cool.

Florence and The Machine covering Beyonce's Halo. I know a lot of people don't like this cover and say the song isn't suited to her voice but I like it a lot.

La Roux covering White Lies - Farewell to The Fairground. I'm really undecided about this one, I like La Roux but I'm really not sure that she improves on the original at all. Opinions? It really bugs me that the video is out of sync with the audio.

Now this one is a much better cover/collab/whatever. Give it a go.

And finally

Pendulum remixing/kinda covering Calvin Harris - I'm not Alone. Saw this at Oxegen and it was possibly the best song of the weekend. This video doesn't come close to how amazing it is live, the energy during it was amazing.

And also

I went shopping today after my philosophy exam and I got some bargains. I managed to get a navy Bourjois So Laque nail polish from Boots for only €2 and I got a Betty Boop shorts and string top set from Dunnes for €7. It's pyjamas, but I figure that after a few months when no one else remembers it being pyjamas I can wear it out at night. The shorts look good with tights, I tried it on earlier.

I might take photos tomorrow if I get a chance.

Excitement!

I just saw this post over on Style Bubble and I think I'm in love with some of those clothes.

I need a job!

Wooo, ooh, ooh.

I had a look today to see if I could find some fabric to re-create the yellow dress in the last post, since I'm broke. It looks like a pretty easy style to copy, even with my lack of a sewing machine and quite rubbish sewing skills. Wunderweb all the way!
Anyway, the best I could find was some yellow gingham, which seemed a little too heavy. I dunno though, I might give it a go. On the plus side I found some pretty cool fabrics, obviously meant for a child's bedlinen or something that would make some awesome skirts/dresses. I'm in a DIY'ing mood right now and since I'm finished college for the summer I don't have much to do.

Window shopping online :D

It's the best because I don't have a credit card so I can't actually spend any money. If I want to buy anything I have to go hound my mum or sister for their cards.

That being said I may need to track them down soon, look at these beauties!

These can be bought here for €9.60.
As you lot have probably gathered, I love tights. I don't think I've ever owned polka dotted tights before, and I can think of so many outfits these would work with.

Can be bought here for €7.20.
These tights are so cute and girly, I'd love to pair them with a biker jacket or something studded to soften the toughness of the leather and studs.

Here for €12.
I usually hate footless tights, but I think I need these in my life.

All of the above photos are taken from ASOS.com

I wasn't too impressed with the latest Kate Moss collection for Topshop, but there were two items which I really liked.

This Daisy Print Tea Dress, £60, is adorable and would look great with white plimsoles for the summer. I love the collar and the nipped-in waist.

I didn't think much of this Sailor Cardigan when I saw it on the hanger, but once I tried it on I fell in love. It fits like a dream and is just overall perfection in the shape of a cardigan. I love cardigans and this is possibly my favourite since my cream Topshop one I bought two years ago. (Which I just happen to be wearing today, an outfit post will follow)
Oh Topshop, why must you tease me with beautiful cardigans while I'm so unemployed?

Outside of the Kate Moss collection there are lots of other covetable clothes in Topshop right now, I'll run you through my pick of them.

There are Super Long Leggings by Boutique. I'm quite tall (5'9'') and I find it hard to find leggings long enough. I already have Topshop's extra long leggings, but they're just no long enough. These look perfect, look at the rutched effect at the ankles!

I've wanted a Reko dress ever since I first saw them on Lady Luck Rules OK a few years ago. I've never gotten around to buying one, but these two are gorgeous.

Available here for £40.

Available here for £40

I actually saw the blue Reko dress in Topshop a few days ago and said to my friend "wow that dress is lovely, but it looks like it's a Reko dress". I checked the tag but it said nothing about Reko. It was only when I was 'shopping' online that I realised I was right!

I'm not usually a jumper fan, I wear the in the morning when I get out of bed, but I tend not to look at them as fashionable items. But for some reason these jumpers from Illustrated People really appeal to me 1 and 2. I particularly like the heart on the second one, zoom in and look at the detail!

This £20 t-shirt is gorgeous! I'm very picky about t-shirts but this one seems to meet all of my requirements.
Love love love this yellow dress!
It's only £28 too, bargain! And it's got pockets!! I love dresses with pockets soooo much. This is the perfect summer dress and if I ever manage to find a job I feel that it shall be my dress of summer '09.

I'm loving this spotty ballerina-esque dress too, perfect for nights out.

You can't see the zips very well in the photos, unfortunately, but I'm intrigued as to how they'd look. The top is a great shape though so hopefully they'll get it in stock in Topshop in Galway so I can take a closer look.

I'm loving how this cardigan drapes. It looks amazing.

These hippy-ish shorts are so summery and pretty, I love them!
1 and 2. I'd wear them with these embroidered flats, these bangles (they had nicer ones a few weeks ago, but they're gone!), a flowy floral top and long curly hair. Bring on the summer!

Pat Kenny leaving!?!?!

Yay!!! Happy dance time!

I just heard that Pat Kenny is resigning as host of the Late Late Show!

I can't stand him, he's an awful presenter and simply annoying.

Wonder who'll replace him...

Err... Just another also

I swear I'll go back to my essays after this one!

Why is it that some of the pictures I put in my blog are all grainy and horrible, but some are not? I don't really understand it, because when I copy my photos over from my camera I always resize them to the same size. Anyone out there know?

Also

I think I'm in love with Cornify. Unicorns, rainbows and glitter, what more could a girl ask for, eh?

I'm trying to figure out how to add the button to this blog that will let all you lot cornify my page. :)

Unicorn love!

EDIT: It's added! Look at the top right hand side. Now go, go make a glittery, unicorny mess of your screen, make haste dammit!
I officially fail at life. Or at writing essays anyway. Why oh why am I doing English???

In other news

I made cupcakes for mummy (haha) on Mother's Day, which was last Sunday.
Myself and my siblings cooked dinner for my mum and granny. My older sister did the main course- Lemon and mushroom chicken, and my little brother did the starter- pea and mint soup, while I did the dessert- evilly good cupcakes.

Walnut and coffee cupcakes and banoffi cupcakes. God the banoffi ones were good! Not a good idea for someone on a diet though, I used a whole tin of Dulce De Leche, a lot of sugar and a lot of butter and cream to make them! The coffee and walnut ones I make becand some coffee in the cupcake mixture, the cupcakes topped with coffee flavoured marscarpone and half a walnut. If anyone wants the recipes just let me know!use mum likes coffee and walnut. They were a much healthier option, walnuts a

The Banoffi ones were a little messy, I was too impatient to let them cool before I iced them so the icing melted and went everywhere. They were so good though!

The excited family receving their cupcakes.

Okay, so they don't look very excited. They were though!

Songs you couldn't live without

Inspired by this post on MSN (no, I'm not some weirdo who spends their free time reading everything on MSN, it's my homepage and the interesting articles show up on the front page), I got to thinking abotu what songs I couldn't live without. This is basically a 'favourite songs of all time' post under a new guise, but what the heck, I'll do it!.

As a starting point, let's take my top played song on LastFM, which is BabyshamblesLa Belle et la Bête. This is definitely one of my 'can't live without it' songs. It's one of the only songs that I loved the first time I heard it- it usually takes me a few listens- and it's one of the few that I can listen to over and over again without getting sick of it. It's got some great memories attached to it, memories of some old friends of mine, memories of the summer of 2007, eating chips down the Arch after going swimming at the beach, of sharing naggins of vodka around in the park when we were 16 and smoking one cigarette between three of us and hoping our mothers wouldn't find out. Nicole had this song on her phone and our soundtrack to that summer was this song, BabyshamblesFuck Forever, KlaxonsGolden Skans, Hadouken! That Boy That Girl, and anything by Cansei de Ser Sexy. In fact, I love this song so much that I'm considering getting the French Dog off the cover of Down in Albion tattooed onto my right hip.

Look out for future posts in which I'll continue this topic.

I hate

The term 'Recessionista'.

In fact I just hate the word 'recession'. I'm not a big fan of 'fashionista' either, so put the two together... a good word it does not make.

A slightly interesting article about what sells during a recession.

Hmm... Well I've bought chocolate bars today, from Aldi (and damn nice they are!), I've tried sewing a missing button back onto one of my jackets, only to realise that I'd lost the button and I've considered eating baked beans for lunch.

Does that make me a super-dooper-faaaabulous recessionista?? You bet it does. Ugh, I can't believe I just typed that word. Again.

it's been a while

lots has happened though.

I got a fringe. wow, excting! be excited, yeah

it snowed a bit yesterday, which was a bit crazy for march.

^ a not very clear photo of the snow from my bedroom window

it was only a bit of snow and it didn't stick but it never snows here, so even a tiny bit is exciting.

my little brother turned 12 yesterday. mum made him chocolate cake.

I cooked some carrot and sweet potato soup for lunch

don't you just love giant cups/bowls with handles. also, new hair!

I basically did nothing yesterday though, except lounged about and went to the supermarket for yoghurt. didn't even go into uni. yes yes yes, I'm an awful person.

I had some yummy lamb and rosemary stew for dinner though, which mummy made.

ooh, I did do something yesterday, I went to the library to pick up a book. no. 6 in Stephan King's
dark tower series - Song of Susannah. I haven't read much of it yet but it seems pretty good so far.

I wore my silver docs, a black topshop vest top, black vero moda skirt, black topshop leggings, studded river island belt and a leopard print cardi from a-wear.

today wasn't much more exciting. i went to uni for a while, to an english tutorial and a lecture. fun stuff. I couldn't make out what was going on in the lecture and the guy sitting in front of me was on google earth on his laptop and reading cyanide and happiness so I just looked over his shoulder rather than listen to the lecture.

i wore make up today for the first time in ages. no clear pictures of it though. just the green and brown eyeshadows from the MAC warm pallette from their Colour Forms 08 collection with diorshow and my usual face makeup and 17 balmy beige on my lips.

clothes-wise i wore these new trousers which i got in topshop in dublin at the weekend for €15, reduced from €53. with my silver docs, green topshop top and grey cardi borrowed from my mum. along with the brown leather bag on my bed, which i wear pretty much everyday

scarves are quite fantastic

In fact I think I've become a little obsessed with them recently.

I can't seem to stop wearing this one:

Now this one has emerged from the deepest depths of my wardrobe:

and today I bought another one, although at least it's a little, dainty one this time :)

I wore it today, so let's have a daily outfit post, shall we?

Skirt: New Look, vest top: Topshop, tights:Primark, cardigan: Topshop, Scarf: New Look

Tis madness, this whole scarf business. I used to never wear them.

primer, the beginning of it all.

Today I thought I'd talk (write, even) a bit about the importance of using a primer when you're wearing makeup.

Primer keeps your makeup on and looking nice for longer. It can also aid in its application and intensify the colours used. It prepares the skin and creates a smooth surface for the makeup to stick to.

Think of it like paint. You wouldn't paint a wall unless you'd primed it first, you also shouldn't apply makeup unless you've primed your skin. Some people just moisturise and leave it at that, but I'm going to show you now why you should go one better.

I'm going to show you pictures which will hopefully illustrate just how important it is to buy and wear a good foundation and eyeshadow primer.

I use Sephora professional makeup base as a foundation primer. It's quite nice, it has a bit of shimmer in it so illuminates your face a little. I want to try a silicon primer next, the Smashbox Photo Finish is supposed to be good.

For my eyes I use Urban Decay Primer Potion. Most people have heard of this one I'm sure, if you don't already own it I highly recommend it.

Right then, I'll stop harping on and just get the photos out, shall I?

First, these are some very, very old photos from before I owned a primer.

I don't think I'm wearing foundation in those, so lets just look at the eyes. See how the eyeshadow barely shows up and it's creased and horrible in the first picture? In the second picture there's no creasing but I'm sure there was later in the day.

These photos were taken last week at around 3am. I had applied this makeup the previous morning with both my Urban Decay primer on my eyes and my Sephora primer on my face under it. These photos were taken after spending a day in college, going shopping, going to the pub for a friends birthday, drinking lots of Guiness and then spending 2 or 3 hours dancing in a hot nightclub. In between all this it was lashing rain. I touched up my eyeliner in the pub, but other than that it all stayed the same for well over 12 hours. Here are the pretty blurry photos I took when I got home.

Do you see the difference?

This time, the eyeshadow is vibrant and uncreased, even after all those hours.

My foundation has come off my nose a bit, but considering how long it was on that's understandable I think.

So there you have it, go buy a primer and use it.

If you really don't want to fork out any money, there's some chafing gel that supposed to work like a silicon primer. I'm not really sure of the details, try googling it.

If you really don't want to buy an eye primer (do it!) try using eyeliner pencils to create a base. The soft creamy ones tend to work best, such as Urban Decay's 24/7 liners. You can either use them in the same colours as the eyeshadow you're using or in white which will intensify all colours. I'll blog about coloured bases another time though. :)
