Interview

I had my interview today for the makeup course I want to do this year.

It didn't go well.

I had been told there were 40 places and I arrived feeling a little nervous. Waiting outside all the other girls were just in basic (mainly orange) makeup and none of them had portfolios or anything with them, so I was starting to feel quite confident. I had a load of answers ready, I could seriously talk for hours about my favourite products, brands, beauty bloggers etc.

I went in and the first thing I was told was that there were 18 places, not 40 and there were 180 applicants. Then they said that because I've already done a level 5 course I may not be able to do another, apparently the goverment are trying to only fund people for one each. I wasn't really asked anything about makeup and I came out feeling like there were a load of things I forgot to say.

I have no idea what I'll do with the year if I don't get it. Sure, I can wait it out and re-apply next year (it's a new course so I assume there'll be less demand next year) but what will I do to kill time?

None of that... or any of the others.

Just a couple of songs I've had on rotation for the last week or two.

I'm hopefully going to see Janelle MonĂ¡e, Messiah J and The Mighty Stef at Electric Picnic. So excited!!

Ouch!

I hate breaking in Dr Martens boots!

(Pic taken from http://www.drmartens.com/)
I bought these patent pink ones (mine are more neon than the ones in the picture) in TK Maxx two weeks ago. They were a total bargain, only €35 but I'm having serious trouble and foot pain trying to break them in. I always have problems with breaking in boots but these are particularly bad as they're a half size too small. I usually wear a 7 in Dr Martens, and although TK Maxx had a 'Size 7' sticker stuck on these, they're actually only a 6.5. Grr.

I'll get there eventually, lots of thick socks and wearing them around the house will do the trick. I was planning on wearing them to Electric Picnic, the music festival I'm going to on Friday but I guess I'll have to stick to my old pair.

Anyone else have trouble breaking in boots?

UD Black Palette!

So I just saw pictures and swatches of the forthcoming Urban Decay Black Palette over on Lipglossiping. Holy cow it looks amazing! Check out those swatches over Pixie Epoxy... drool.

I love dark eyeshadows, especially shimmery dark eyeshadows and I'm definitely going to need to get my hands on this. The dark green looks so gorgeous!

This post also reminds me that I really need to buy some Pixie Epoxy, I've been meaning to get it for months now.

FOTD 27 Aug 10

So today I decided to use my new Lacura lashes. I don't usually wear false lashes, before this I'd only ever worn the weird ones with feathers and glitter and stuff for fancy dress. Considering I'm not used to applying them I don't think I did too bad, although they're not quite close enough to my lashline.

Wow these pictures make me realise how badly I need a haircut. I can't decide though if I want to keep it long(ish) or get it cut short again.

I used:

Face
Bourjois 10 Hour Sleep Effect foundation
17 Translucent Loose Powder
MAC Hipness blush
MAC MSFN
Bourjois highlighter

Eyes
UDPP
Ruby and Millie Gold Cream e/s
MAC Time & Space, Nanogold, Orb, Spiced Chocolate & Shore Leave e/s
UD X e/s
UD Bourbon 24/7 liner
MAC Blacktrack Fluidline
Lacura lashes
 Maybelline The Collossal mascara

Lips
17 Balmy Beige lipstick

And a black and white photo, I'm trying to get some nice black and white pictures to put in my portfolio for my interview, since I'm sure I'll have to do makeyp for black and white photography in my course. If I get it, fingers crossed!

I went shopping today, got a few bargains.

The dress was €2 from Penneys, the falsies were 50c from there too.

I got this 17 Bronze palette a few days ago, my sister was buying some nail varnish from 17 and this came free. It's got 2 eyeshadows, a brown and a cream. A golden bronzer and a gold-brown lipgloss.

The other two items are a 17 nail polish, on clearance for €1.50, which I was going to buy for €5 a few weeks ago, and a Revlon lipstick, Black Cherry, which was €3 reduced from €10.50. The polish is black with silver sparkle and is gorgeous! The lipstick is a dark cherry-plum and very nice and creamy. I'll post swatches tomorrow, the light's too bad now.

More from Penneys

After the last post I had a bit of a root around (in between watching The Mexican and messing about on Tumblr) and I found some more pictures from the new Penneys collection. I found a few things I'd really like to get my hands on. All pictures taken from InStyle

Let's start with this DOUBLE RING because oh my gosh AWESOME!!! Firstly, it has owls. I love owls. Second, it's a cheap, easily (hopefully) available double ring. That never happens here, seriously.

I'll need to see and try on this aviator jacket before I make my mind up on it. Fake leather can look so... well, fake sometimes which really doesn't do it for me. In this picture this looks good, the jacket looks warm and flattering and the 'leather' looks matte and semi-realistic.

I really need both these Military dresses in my life. The shape of them is perfect for me, narrow on the waist and loose on the hips. When you have ridiculous child bearing hips like mine that's something you keep an eye out for. I just hope the buttony bits don't look tacky in person.

I love Parka jackets. I know they're all in fashion and stuff right now but I really don't think I could live with myself if I shelled out a lot of money for an expensive one because until recently they were seen as totally unfashionable and were languishing on Army and Navy and charity shop rails. I do have a nice parka from an Army and Navy store which I've had for a few years. It's super warm though so a lighter alternative would be handy. I'll need to have a look at this one.

Penneys this Autumn

I find shopping in Penneys (Primark for you UK folk) is a lot like shopping in a charity shop. 99% of the clothes are awful but what's left are total bargains. My biggest gripe with them though is that they change their stock around so often that you don't have time to consider your purchases, if you like something you have to buy it straight away or it will probably be gone when you get back.

A lot of the clothes in my wardrobe are from Penney's because I really can't afford to spend much on clothes. I'm a student and I only work one or two nights a week. I stumbled upon pictures of their Autumn collection today and I'm fairly impressed!
I definitely need this jumper in my wardrobe. The jeans look nice too but I find Penneys jeans don't fit me right.

There were a few more bits and pieces I liked too, the black aviator jacket looked nice although I'd have to see it in person to make sure it wasn't too plastic looking.

Yellow and Green & Alice in Wonderland BOS FOTDs

These are two more FOTD's from the last week. The first is more yellow with a turquoise liner. I love the colour of this liner but it takes an age to dry, you need to keep your eyes closed for 5 minutes at least after applying it or else you get a line of green under your eyebrows which is exactly what happened to me here. I tried to fix it but you can still see a green tinge.

I have less than two weeks til my interview for the makeup course I want to do this year so I'm trying to get as much practise in as I can. I still need to decide what makeup to wear into the interview, it's early in the morning is I don't want to go for something too complicated in case I mess it up in my sleep deprived state. I like this second look and it's fairly foolproof but would it be a little too simple to wear to my interview?

2 xsparkage inspired looks

I love Leesha's blog and often look there for inspiration. Her video tutorials and reviews are so helpful. Last week I was in a bit of a rut so I took a look at her site and found two looks I loved and wanted to try out. My attempts weren't anywhere near as nice as hers but I was still quite pleased with them.

I was quite please with this look, until I added the eyeliner. I messed it up and as I was trying to fix it I messed up my eyeshadow a bit.

I haven't a clue what I was wearing on my lips, sorry.

I tried to wear my new lashes with this look but the glue was too shitty. So I dragged it up a bit with the bright lips, stars and feathers.

Lacura Falsies

This week Aldi have false lashes on offer, I bought some yesterday and I'm going to write a little review.

But before that let me tell you about a blog I've found with a fairly great giveaway going on. Lora Does Makeup is having a giveaway to celebrate getting 50 followers. There's some great stuff in the giveaway- lashes, nail polish, mascara and more- so check it out here and enter it before tomorrow.

Now onto the Aldi lashes.
They have 6 different styles for €2.99 each. Some of the styles are lovely and full, the others are a bit rubbish looking. I bought the two which I thought looked best

The lashes themselves are lovely, I don't often wear falsies but these are the nicest cheap ones I've seen. The only problem with them is the glue. If you buy these, take the glue and chuck it straight in the bin. I know the glue that comes with lashes is usually not great, but this was awful! Firstly the tubes are tiny, so even if it had been any good there was barely enough to apply one lash, never mind two. One of the tubes I got was dried up, so it wouldn't come out of the tube. The other was still liquid, but just barely.
I'm going to buy some decent lash glue tomorrow so I'll update with pictures of the lashes when they're applied. Can anyone reccemmend me a good but not too pricey lash glue?

These lashes are €2.99 a set in Aldi, available until stocks last.

FOTD Catchup

I've got a good few to put in here, so I'll just run through them quickly.

Zombie Makeup! We went to a zombie walk and it was great craic! It was so funny seeing everyone dancing in the club after still in full zombie makeup. It looked really cool when I was pulling it off.
I used: Liquid Latex, tissue, MAC Paints (Flammable and the black one), red, black and blue Lipstick, red powder eyeshadow, white greasepaint, MAC Electric Eel e/s (for the green skin tinge) and MAC Carbon e/s with MAC Myth lipstick on my lips.

A NOTD, I've forgotten what colour this is and it's bothering me because I really liked it. I'll have to have a hunt around and see if I can figure it out.

Green and Yellow look.
I used:
Face
Bourjois 10 Hour Sleep Effect foundation
17 Translucent Loose Powder
MAC Hipness blush
MAC MSF
Bourjois highlighter

Eyes
 UDPP
Ruby & Millie gold cream e/s
Fyrinnae OMGWTF e/s
Fyr We're All Mad Here e/s
Fyr Dragon Wing e/s
Fyr Aztec Gold e/s
Fyr Chlorophyll e/s
UD 1999 24/7 liner
MAC Sweet Chestnut e/s
Maybelline The Collossal mascara

I don't really know how I feel about the next look, I felt it was a little over the top so I swapped the lipstick for a nude one before I went out. Maybe it was just because I filled in my eyebrows which I don't normally do, I feel it looks a little too dramatic.

Face makeup is the usual

Eyes
UPDD
 MAC Graphito paint
Fyr Sluagh e/s
Fyr Newcastle e/s
GOSH Purple Stain liner
Fyr Wicked e/s
(there's probably a few other Fyrinnae eyeshadows in there too, but I've forgotten them)
UD Zero 24/7 liner
UD Spandex Heavy Metal Liner
Maybelline The Colossal mascara
Essence brown liner (brows)
MAC Shore Leave e/s

Lips
17 Power Pink lipstick
Fyr Vinyl Shorts lip lustre

 Weird face time!

This look photographed horrendously, so I wont go into much details. It's basically Grape pigment and Sweet Chestnut over Graphito. It was lovely in person though, I'm annoyed I didn't get decent photos.

And that's all folks! I have a 17 nail swatch and review post coming up soon, I might have it done by today if I have the time.
Oh no, I haven't posted in ages! I have a big backlog of posts to stick up here, so hopefully I'll get them up over the next few days. I've been busy enjoying the summer, lots of parties and it's been good fun.
I've got my interview for the makeup course I want to do in September coming up so I'm trying to get some looks together to bring a little mini portfolio into the interview. I'll be posting them up and trying to get some inspiration too, if anyone knows of any blogs with kind of 'out-there' makeup that I could get some ideas off that would be great. I want to try to get out of my comfort zone but I'm drawing a blank right now.

I have a few pictures of the last few weeks to share, and then I'll get onto the beauty stuff.

The Dinosaur cake, buns and animal shaped biscuits I baked for my friend's 21st, I didn't get to taste the cake but the rest of it was lovely. I made the pizza with this pizza base recipe from Budget Bytes and it was seriously the easiest recipe and the nicest pizza I've ever had.

Jello shots, Zombie Walk, Cars from a Classic car show

Double Vodka Red Bulls, Dancing in the Club, pictures from a massive beach party.

So yeah, it's been a fun few weeks. I'll catch up on FOTD's next.
